Shiningpelt-Hawk paw « Thread Started on Apr 22, 2006, 11:40am »
Shiningpelt sat under the highrock, waiting for her aprentice, Hawk paw. She was eager to get out of the camp and show the new cat around the wind clan territory. She yawned and streatched luxuriously, the cold morning sun shining down on the camp, it's pale light barely warming the air at all. The grass glittered with dew, and the braken leafs were brown, aubon, yellow and orange, stiff and crisp on the twigs and branches.
Hawkpaw felt the wind ruffle his fur, and a bright light coming. He grumbled a bit, wondering why his Housefolk were up so early. Then he shot up, remembering that it was hte first day as Hawkpaw, a WindClan apprentice. He raced out of teh den, and towards the place that he was yesterday, when he received his new name.
Shiningpelt was there, waiting for him. Eagerly, he raced up to her, and sat down. "Hi!" He mewed exitedly.
Shiningpelt nodded to him, and a smile of amusement flickered across her face. "You're ment to dip your head when greating a cat older than yourself." She purred. "Are you ready to begin your training? As an aprentice, you will have to feed the elders and queens before yourself, that is the first lession I'm going to teach you. The warrior code states that all clan cats must feed other members of the clan before they feed themselfs. The only eception to that is if you are on a patrol or important mission. Now, all aprentices will tour the territory on their first day of training, are you ready to go?" She meowed, drawing on her knowlage and exprierence from her last aprentice training. She had trained several cats before, who were now fine warriors.
"Oh, Sorry," Hawkpaw mewed, embarrassed. He dipped his head, and then it shot back up. "Yeah, I'm ready! Let's go!" He was almost jumping with exitement. Then, wondering if that, too, was bad manners, he looked up at his mentor questioningly.
"Calm down! Ok, we're going, but makesure that you listen for danger, and I want you to smell for anything unusual as we go." She purred, watching the young cat, brimming with exitement. She got up, flicked her tail for him to follow, and walked clamly up the slope towards the heather and the gorse.
Hawkpaw tried to keep 'cool' and padded after her. "Yes! Of course!" He agreed when his mentor asked him to listen for danger and smell for unusual things. He paused, then asked, "What type of danger and unusual stuff?"
She sighed. "Any growling, unusual cat sents, dogs, that sort of thing, maby badgers, and rabits." She said softly, knowing this was his first proper time out in the wild. She raised her head and parted her jaws, drinking in any sents she should point out to him. bird, a few rabbits and a grass snake, faint trace of the morning patrol and the tunderpath on the far edge of the territory She thought swiftly, before asking, "What can you smell?" She meowed.
Hawkpaw raised his nose and opened his mouth to smell. "I can smell..." He took a big whiff, "A lot of cats. And a rabbit, and a bird..." He couldn't smell anything else. He looked at her, his head cocked, to see how he did.
"Good, you missed the rabbits, the snake, the thunder path, and do you know what cats?" She meowed, smiling, signaling that she was pleased with what he had noticed. She looked up, the sun's still low.
"Hm...they smell kinda like you, but sorta different...are they from WindClan?" Hawkpaw asked, unsure. "I mean, there is a very, very, very faint smell from far that way, that smells different...but this smells like the Camp."
"Good, that's windclan sent. Each clan has their own sent, like each cat does. That's why we share tounges at sun down, to make our sent strong." She meowed, pleased her aprentice was catching on. Suddenly, without warning, she dived into the bushes, and came back out with a small green snake. "You missed him." She purred, setting the snake down again, and it slithered away, hissing angrily.
"oh...sorry." Hawkpaw mewed, embarrased. "I must've missed him over the cat scent..." After a few seconds, he cheered up. "So, if there are other Clans, how do you know where you can hunt and where the other Clans can?"
